HOME Electoral Literacy Club (ELC)
1. Introduction:
An Electoral Literacy Club(ELC) is a platform to engage college students through interesting activities and hands-on experience to sensitise them on their electoral rights and familiarise them with the electoral process of registration and voting. The Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of our college was set up on 25th January, 2022 to promote electoral literacy of our students by engaging them through some and interesting activities and hands-on experience. Such activities are neutral, non-biased and in an apolitical manner.
To identify students of the 18+ age-group who have not registered for inclusion of their names in the electoral rolls;
To encourage and assist them in the process of voter registration;
To facilitate voter registration for the eligible members who are not yet registered;
To educate the targeted populations in the college and the locality about voter registration and related matters through hands on experience;
To familiarise students with EVM and VVPAT;
To harness the potential of ELC members for carrying the electoral literacy in communities;
To develop a culture of electoral participation and maximize the informed and ethical voting and follow the principle 'Every vote counts' and 'No Voter to be Left Behind';
3. Membership:
The club will have all regular students as its members. The membership will expire as and when the students leave the college after final semester results. The newly admitted students of first semester of every academic session will automatically became the member of the ELC.
4. Structure:
The ELC will be coordinated by two Nodal Officers, who are also faculties of the department of Political Science & Economics. They will also act as Mentors of the ELC. Teachers with experience of Election duty will be preferred for the post(s) of Nodal Officer(s). All students of the College of the College will be ordinary members of the club (Clause-3).
The Nodal Officers shall focus on:
Nodal officer will be free to engage the Executive Committee Members in the operations of the ELC.
5. Executive Committee:
The Executive Committee shall include at least three other teachers, at least four students representing all the semesters. The First Executive Committee shall be nominated by the Principal for a period of one year. Subsequently, the same process will be followed by the Principal and student members to be represented from the respective classes for a period of one year.
•The Club would be run by an elected body from amongst the ELC member students with elected representatives from each of the classes.
•The Committee members can only be students who are already enrolled as voters.
•The committee must not include any politically active student. However, students with political affiliations may enrol themselves as common members of the ELC itself.
•The Executive Committee, under the Guidance, consultation and supervision of the Nodal Officer will be responsible for organizing the activities of the ELC.
•The elected body shall endeavour to generate the culture of electoral participation amongst the ELC members.
6. Activities :
1. Celebration of National Voter’s Day
2. An Invited Lecture Programme in the College on National Voter’s Day
3. Hands on training with demo EVM
