About the Department:

The Department of Commerce started its journey in the year 1964. Since 1970-71 academic session, the Department has been offering Honours course curriculum of University of Calcutta prior to which it had only Pass (General) curriculum. The Department has the heritage of doing well in the University Examinations and is one of the leading Commerce Departments under Calcutta University so far as the B.Com.(Hons & Gen) results are concerned.. It shares a very close Teacher-student relationship. The Department feels honoured to have produced many brilliant students who excelled in their further academic and professional endeavors. The Department proposes to collaborate with corporate sector in future so that our students may get placement assistance.

Departmental Library:

The Department has been running the departmental Library which came into being with the books contributed by the departmental teachers and publishers. At present the library possesses a rich collection of both text and reference books which get regularly circulated among the students. The teachers of the department take charge of the departmental Library by rotation. Teachers  also have access to the Library as and when they need.

Activities:

  • Besides taking regular classes and class tests, the Department also organizes tutorial classes.

  • The Department organizes occasional seminars and workshops for the benefit of the students

  • Students organize cultural programmes on Teachers’ Day.

  • Department holds parent-teacher meeting once in a year.

  • Departmental students actively participate in all the college extra- curricular activities

  • Students of the Department contribute actively in the various activities organized by the NSS.
